Redesign/Relaunch and Ongoing Editorial Direction
Willamette University wanted an original take on a flagship magazine. I served as the interim editor for Issue 1 and am now the contract editor-in-chief. “I think this was the first time I have read this many articles in the magazine and perused the entire magazine,” said one alum following the relaunch. Another said the redesign “brought home what Willamette’s motto and mission look like in practice.”

This Summer 2020 issue was “ not only the best issue of Amherst magazine I have ever read, it was the best issue of any magazine I have read since the crises of this spring and summer,” said a reader.

Redesign/Relaunch Consulting and Editorial Strategy
I partnered with the communications team at Lafayette College and an external design firm on a strategic redesign and relaunch of this flagship publication. I helped to choose the design firm and worked to develop new sections, story lists, and strategies.

Earlier, I was part of a team at the Brown Alumni Magazine that won numerous CASE awards, including the 2002 Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year Award. And during my year as the police and courts reporter at the Fauquier Times-Democrat, I won a Virginia Press Association Award for my coverage of a local murder.
